I enjoyed working at EB Games, until the head office people started making stupid decisions. Like basing your performance on questionnaires that are filled out. So if you have 12 customers in the day, 11 had a great day and 1 had a bad day.

Only the person with a bad day fills out the questionnaire, you get dinged on the one questionnaire. Even though 11 people had a great experience. Pros Working with video games. Cons Corporate has no idea what is really going on at retail level, decisions seem to be made with no thought on impact to customers or employees.

The motto I was told on day one was, cover your own back, because no one else in this company will, and sadly it is true. The co workers are fine, wonderful people, mostly younger kids who are working through school, or in a transitionary period looking for what they'd like to do later in life. The management, on the other hand, has highly unrealistic goals of it's workers and its staff, with no compensation or real payout for the work they put in, but if it's not done, the long line of ensuing threats will motivate most into doing so.

The hardest part is staying motivated, to want to help the store succeed; after being treated the way you do, with no one to really help or guide you, there's not a whole lot you want to do to help the store, or company.

Next to minimum wage with no raises or bonuses or concrete goals in sight, doesn't help to motivate much either. The only saving grace about this place, is the sales associates, they are wonderful people selling things they love, and are usually happy about it, until payday, when they see all the hard work and effort they put in, the times they came in to cover for someone, or just for extra coverage, the fights with customers they deal with, and the disrespect from their management they receive, boil down to minimum wages.

Pushed hard for sales but provided no compensation. The culture feels awful, it seems to be a direct disconnect between caring for there employees and money. This means that they are aware that their standards are set too high, yet management tries to make you feel worthless for not reaching these goals anyway.

Employees are constantly being reminded to push sales, especially for items we don't actually support for the best interest of our favourite customers.

The selling culture at EB is intense. This is not the place for you if you genuinely love giving recommendations for good products, because the chances are that those products don't make the company money, therefore you get in trouble. I did love working at EB Games for a while.

Here are some reasons I enjoyed it: -I had a good manager who I was comfortable around. He was very understanding of mental health issues, allowed us to take food breaks if we needed it which should be standard but unfortunately it is not , and he was very flexible with the schedule. I made so many customer-friends. Sometimes I feel like going back there just for them. I, a person who is passionate about things she loves namely video games , became unenthusiastic about everything.

I was constantly told to stop trying to sell good products and only sell ones that made EB money. Sure, it is sales, I should have known better when getting myself into it; however, I think EB implements selling culture in a way that makes passionate workers hate themselves. With that said, my manager did this constructively, so I never felt overly pressured by him, it was more of just a painful - more Pros Nice coworkers, pretty good management, customer interaction, video games.

The only thing I wish is that over the past two years I have expressed interest in moving up to many managers, district managers, area managers and the like about my intention to do more for the company. Even though I've been given assurance that my concerns and requests had been heard I've never even been upgraded to full time status so that I can have some benefits even though most weeks I work 40 hours. I also have never been given the opportunity to move up even though I have been asked if I would, told them so and then left wondering as to when.

EB is a wonderful place to work but I believe they need to be more transparent about internal job openings as the information is not readily available to staff who are already working there.
